eliminated in singles competition may be used as members of the doubles team
competition.
“NO-AD” scoring
will be used in the first two rounds. Twelve point tie-breaker will be used if
the score reaches six all in any set.
No school should
be jeopardized in league play because they have a girl participating in
District competition.
Participants will be contacted by the league
representative, regarding starting time for singles and doubles. Contestants
not at the courts by these times will lose by forfeit.

METHOD OF SEEDING SINGLES & DOUBLES
1. Seeding criteria: The following, in order, will be the only criteria used for seeding purposes.
a. Head to Head Interscholastic Competition during current season.
b. Results from matches between common opponents during current season.
c. Previous District I and State Tournament Experience/Results including doubles. Most recent results to carry more weight than earlier results.
d. Middle States Ranking/Head to Head
e. Similar qualifications or insufficient data (to include more than the number of seeds) draw for placement.
.
2. Seeding Procedure:
Step 1 – Seeding – A. The AAA 32 draw will have a maximum of 12 seeds.
B. The 2A 16 draw will have a maximum of 6 seeds
Step 2 – All league champions will be reviewed using the seeding criteria and will be ranked 1 through 11. League champions will be placed according to the league tournament. This will be the tentative ladder.
Step 3 – Committee members may offer any #2 ranked league player for ladder consideration according to the results of the league tournament. These players will be reviewed using the seeding criteria and if the claim is judged valid, will be placed in the appropriately ranked position on the tournament ladder. The same procedure shall be used for the wild card qualifiers. Example: #2’s could become 11, 12, 13, etc. If the player is placed in the top 11, the other players will drop down accordingly. The #2’s will not be placed higher than a #1 from the same league. The same will hold true for the #3’s and #4’s.
Step 4 – Repeat step 2 for any #3 ranked league player.
Step 5 – Repeat step 2 for any #4 ranked league player
Step 6 – The remaining players will be put on the unoccupied lines in the order in which they are drawn starting at the top.
Step 7 – Team members shall not play against each other in the first round. To prevent this from happening, they will be placed on the next comparable line on the opposite end of the draw.
Step 8 – If by the luck of the draw, a league #2 would meet their league #1 in the first round, they would be placed on the mirror image line in the other half of the draw.
CHAMPIONSHIP RULES
1. All PIAA rules governing athletic events are in effect U.S.T.A. rules apply. First offense –warning; second offense – one point; third offense- one game; 4th offense- default. Anyone ejected from the first four rounds will be unable to advance to the doubles tournament. Conduct on the court shall display good sportsmanship.
2. Scoring will be:
A. The “NO-AD” scoring system will be used for the first 2 rounds in AAA and in the first round of AA.
B. The twelve point tie-breaker will apply if the score should reach six-all in all rounds.
3. The players will call their own lines. If there should be any questions, players may call time out and ask for a decision or assistance from the tournament committee members. Only Committee members not involved with coaching the match in question may make decisions about the match. No one may leave the courts during this time.
4. Warm-up time is not to exceed 15 minutes including serves. Play is to be continuous.

INSTRUCTIONS
Coaches: In order to be eligible for District I
competition, girls must be accompanied by either a coach or an adult with
written authorization from their school for the duration of the competition.
Such written authorization must be presented to the tournament chairperson
prior to the start of the event.
CLASSIFICATION: AA, AAA – SEE PIAA WEBSITE TO DETERMINE YOUR SCHOOL’S TEAM CLASSIFICATION.
The Steering Committee will seed up to 16 teams for AA and AAA tournaments. The League champions will automatically be entered into the tournament according to their classification. The selection for the additional positions (wild cards) in the tournament will be based on League record and the team’s record against common opponent teams in District I. In the event a League champion chooses not to participate, this position will become an additional wild card selection and open to any at-large nomination from any League. Steering Committee members must check with their League members as to interest in participating in the tournament.
Players may only play one event (singles or doubles). Each Team , listing students in descending order of ability, shall establish a strength ladder line-up from 1 to 10. The ladder submitted for the Team shall represent the strongest line-up for that Team. The first three (3) students shall play singles in order that they are listed on the strength ladder line-up. Beginning with the fourth student listed on the strength ladder line up, any four of the remaining seven students may comprise the doubles Teams. The doubles Team having the highest level of ability shall occupy the number 1 position and the doubles Team having the second highest level of ability shall occupy the number 2 position. No player shall be eligible for a doubles Team unless they are listed on the Team’s strength ladder line-up. Teams shall submit their strength ladder line ups, which shall specify singles player #l, singles player #2, singles player #3, doubles Team #l, and doubles Team #2, at the beginning of the District Team Tennis Tournament. With the exception of authorized substitutions for illness, injury, or other extenuating circumstances (as determined by the appropriate Tournament Director), a Team’s strength ladder line-up may not be changed throughout the respective District and Inter-District Team Tennis Tournaments.
Option #1
Substitution May be made only in case of illness, injury, or other extenuating circumstances (as determined appropriate by the Tournament Director). The school’s athletic administration and/or head tennis Coach shall provide supporting documentation for such substitutions. An ill or injured player may be substituted for and then be re-entered in the same position in the Team’s strength ladder line-up, upon documented authorization from a licensed physician of medicine or osteopathic medicine. Teams are prohibited from making substitutions that would allow an ill or injured player to be moved from playing singles to doubles, and then back to singles when the ill or injured player has recovered, even with a licensed physician of medicine’s or osteopathic medicine’s documented authorization. (A team may elect to substitute or not substitute when the above authorized substitution conditions are present.
Substitutions shall be made by utilizing direct-line substitution ONLY. .Substitution of a singles player shall be made from the remaining seven students and shall result in the three singles players playing in order of their ability, in accordance with the Team’s strength ladder line-up. Doubles Teams do not have to be disrupted in order to replace a singles player. When a singles player substitution is necessary, and a member of one of the school’s established doubles Teams is designated as that substitute, the resulting vacant doubles position shall be filled by a player from the Team’s strength ladder line-up and, therefore, shall not be filled from the school’s other established doubles Team.
Substitution of both doubles
partners shall be prohibited if only one of the two players experiences an
illness, injury, or other extenuating circumstances (as determined appropriate
by the Tournament Director.)
Furthermore, substitution of a player from one of the school’s
established doubles Teams to fill the spot of an ill/injured player on that
school’s other doubles Team shall be prohibited. Finally, changing the strength order of the school’s doubles
Teams following any appropriate direct-line substitution shall be prohibited.
OPTION #2

A COACH HAS A TEAM MEMBER UNABLE
TO PLAY DO TO ILLNESS, INJURY, OR OTHER EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR). IF THE COACH
CHOOSES NOT TO SUBSTITUE IN THAT POSITION, A FORFEIT WILL BE AWARDED TO THE
OPPOSING TEAM, STARTING THE MATCH WITH A SCORE 1-0 IN INDIVIDUAL MATCHES.
Moving players around with the intent of gaining a competitive advantage is prohibited and shall subject the Team to default from the Tournament.

warning. Second offense, one point. Third offense, one game. Fourth offense, default.
7. If a match is postponed due to weather, it will be played on the rain date. If the
match is aborted due to inclement weather, it must commence at the point of interruption.
8. The players will call their own score.

reversed nor will Contest be ordered or permitted to be replayed.” “Questions
regarding interpretation of rules or judgment of officials should be submitted, in
writing to the Executive Director.”
10. The Team Tournament Director reserve the right to either use a 10 point match tie-break set in lieu of the standard six-game third set or stop a match,
